In the early days of the prepping craze it seemed that the bugout was all anyone needed. If you had that bag by the door you could escape the Yellowstone caldera.
It was step one in everyone’s process. Before they worried about food or water. Before they worried about having power during the next blizzard, they worried about buying an expensive bag and filling it with all sorts of gear they didn’t know how to use.
Now, the bug out plan can be a serious tool to leverage. There are many circumstances where your only option is to get out of dodge. In that moment you will be happy that you have that bag packed and ready to go.
Lately people have come to the realization that the average American is hardly ever at home. We spend about 9 hours a day at work. From there we spend an hour in traffic. Having a bag at home doesn’t really do us a lot of good if we aren’t at home to use it.
The need to get home is such a big deal. All of your preps are there. Everything you have invested in are at your home. Your family is at home.
Until you get home you won’t be able to make the right decisions. You need to have a legitimate get home bag that stays in your car. This bag is as essential if not more essential than the bugout bag itself. You are going to need to have an answer for the space between your home and your place of business.
The truth of the matter is that you need both. Maybe one is not more important than the other. It might be that its all part of reaching your maximum level of preparedness.
