There are countless people who would love to buy a little piece of land and start a survival homestead, but because they don’t make much money and/or don’t have a lot of savings, they assume it will never happen.
The truth is, it’s possible to get land even if you don’t have much money. However, you will have to be patient, you’ll have to do a lot of research, and you’ll have to spend many weekends driving around and checking out potential properties in person.
There’s a Youtube channel called Becky’s Homestead, and Becky is a great example of someone who had very little money and was able to buy land anyway. Here’s how she did it.
How To Buy Land
First, she searched local newspapers. Not just in her area, but all over, which required lots of driving. After several weeks of this, you might get frustrated, but if you persist, eventually you’ll find two or three acres that will be perfect.
Next, she called the owners and haggled over the down payment and interest rate. If she got a good deal, she didn’t commit yet. First, she would investigate the property. Was it agricultural? Was it in a flood zone? And she would visit the property. Did it have a lake or well? Was it flat or rugged?
Investigating Off-Grid Properties
And finally, she would make sure the person selling the property actually owned the title and that there were no liens. That final step could save you a lot of legal problems down the road.
Of course, there’s a lot more to it and that, but now you have any idea of what’s involved. By following all these steps, Becky was able to get a nice little piece of land even though she was basically broke. If she can do it, so can you!
